Best wired CCTV systems: top wired camera solutions for security

When people want to install new or updated CCTV systems at their homes or business properties they have many types of systems to choose from. For many people the multiple options are overwhelming.

The aim of this article is to assist with the choosing process. It briefly answers some questions regarding CCTV systems in general, and then shares more information regarding pros and cons of wired camera solutions.

Basic types of CCTV systems

In principle, only two main types of CCTV security systems exist:

  1. Wired CCTV systems – hardwired to the power supply and the monitor.
  2. Wireless security systems where cameras transmit video signals via Wi-Fi. Usually, they are powered by batteries or use a solar camera. Sometimes, however, these Wi-Fi cameras still use a hardwired power source.

Only wired systems will be discussed.

Wired CCTV systems

There are pros and cons when using a CCTV camera with wire as a security solution.

Pros

  • Over the years, wired CCTV camera systems have proved that they are very reliable.
  • The direct wire connections provide continuous flow of data and power.
  • No battery replacements or recharging are necessary.
  • Hardwired cameras are ideal for places where uninterrupted surveillance is needed.
  • They directly transmit videos to Network Video Recorders (NVRs) or a Video Management System (VMS) where the data can either be viewed in real-time or stored.
  • The surveillance videos are provided directly via the wires and do not depend on internet availability.

Cons

  • Hackers can exploit outdated software and get access to the surveillance system to block the storage of data.
  • Hardwired systems without Wi-Fi cannot send alerts to cell phones or applications dependent on the internet.
  • Surveillance can only be done where the monitor is situated.

Best wired CCTV systems for security

There are many wired CCTV systems available on the market. As security scenarios differ from home to home and businesses have very specialised needs, it is difficult to name the best wired camera and system. However, Australian CCTV retailers and installers will be able to provide a customer with information regarding the different wired cameras and which ones will be the best suitable for the customer’s situation.

Brands that offer wired security cameras in Australia and are highly recommended by installers include

  • Hanwha Wisenet which is one of Korea’s leading security camera manufacturers,
  • Hikvision with a wide range of wired cameras,
  • the popular Dahua cameras, and
  • Axis with its ease-to-use camera philosophy.

Conclusion

Although it is hard to single out one wired camera as the best solution for security in general, there are excellent wired cameras from at least four brands to choose from.
